Who Is The Rich Man?

I found this little story and thought I’d share it with everyone. It can teach us all a lesson:

One day a wealthy father took his son on a trip to the country so that the son could see how the poor lived. They spent a day and a night at the farm of a very poor family. When they got back from their trip, the father asked his son, “How was the trip?” “Very good, Dad!” “Did you see how poor people can be?” “Yeah!” “And what did you learn?” The son answered, “I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden; they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lamps in the house; they have the stars. Our patio reaches to the front yard; they have the whole horizon.” When the little boy was finished, the father was speechless. His son then added, “Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are!”

What Happened To America?

Maybe I’m a little ticked off today, but I am fed up with hearing the cries from Wall Street and the “bailout”. Now, I want to tell you, I am NOT a political person. I’m just a mom, with three kids and a husband who is trying to make ends meet, just like all of you, but this is really getting to me.

wall_street.jpgWhen did we start to care more about ourselves than our fellow human beings? What is happening to corporate America that they could care less about losing companies that are older than me for the sake of greed. Workers are being let go, people are losing their retirement nest eggs and the CEO’s that ran these companies are walking away! They always say “Money is the root of all evil”. Well, today it surely stands true.

This is the part that really ticks me off:

So start eating lots of Folate, which can be found in Oranges, Strawberries, Melons, Beans and Eggs! Hey, it wouldn’t hurt? All those foods are good for us anyway, so might as well eat them and feel better too.

savingmoney.jpg Saving Money image by SunshineMountDoraIn today’s economy, saving money has become an obsession for some, me included. Gas alone is killing my family budget, as is the price of groceries. There are ways to save money just by doing a few things around your home and by utilizing resources around you.

  • Setting your thermostat to 78 in summer and 68 in winter.
  • Use the library to borrow books and movies instead of buying them or renting them.
  • Turn the thermostat on your water heater down a degree or two.
  • Wash in cold water.
  • Shop after holiday sales and stock up for next year.
  • Use coupons whenever you can. There are many coupon sites available. A few of them are: www.Coupons.com, www.TheGroceryGame.com, www.atozdeals.com .
  • Eat at home. Bag your lunch. Bring coffee from home. Stop eating out.
  • Match coupons to the sale items in your weekly grocery circular.

Kid’s Book Review

Cover ImageOne of my favorite children’s authors is Cynthia Rylant. I was introduced to her books when my son came home from school with one of the “Henry & Mudge” books. Right from the beginning I was hooked on her books and couldn’t wait to read another to my son. My daughters then continued the love of her books and to this day, we pull them out and read them over and over again.

She has written a number of children’s books among them “Dog Heaven”, “When I Was Young In The Mountains”, “Night In The Country”, “The Mr. Putter & Tabby Series”, “High-Rise Private Eyes Series”, “Cobble-Street Cousins Series”, “Lighthouse Family Series”, “Let’s Go Home”, and our favorite for the Christmas Holiday - “Christmas In The Country”. There are many more and too numerous to mention, but all her books are written in a down-home country kind of way and just make you feel really good inside. Check out her books here - Cynthia Rylant or go to your local library and look her up. You won’t be disappointed.
