Money Saving Tips
In today’s economy, saving money has become an obsession for some, me included. Gas alone is killing my family budget, as is the price of groceries. There are ways to save money just by doing a few things around your home and by utilizing resources around you.
- Setting your thermostat to 78 in summer and 68 in winter.
- Use the library to borrow books and movies instead of buying them or renting them.
- Turn the thermostat on your water heater down a degree or two.
- Wash in cold water.
- Shop after holiday sales and stock up for next year.
- Use coupons whenever you can. There are many coupon sites available. A few of them are: www.Coupons.com, www.TheGroceryGame.com, www.atozdeals.com .
- Eat at home. Bag your lunch. Bring coffee from home. Stop eating out.
- Match coupons to the sale items in your weekly grocery circular.
Donate Coupons To Military Families
I just found the coolest program. Did you know that you can clip coupons and send them to military
families overseas? They can use expired coupons for up to six months. You can contribute as an individual or a group. What a great project for girl/boy scouts!
Simply clip the coupons from your local paper, sort them into categories of ‘food’ and ‘non-food’, add up the value of the coupons, put them in baggies and label and ship them to the bases. These families will appreciate the assistance in trying to save money grocery shopping.
Go to the Overseas Coupon Program at www.ocpnet.org to find out the details and method of shipping.
The Coupon Queen
Free Local Grocery Store Coupons
Either clip your own coupons from your weekly circulars or use an online coupon clipping or printing service. Some of these sites charge a small fee for their services, others are free to print yourself. Not only can you find grocery coupons, but household coupons also.
Planning Meals To Save Money
What’s for dinner? That is the most stressful question in some households but it doesn’t have to be. I know it’s not easy preparing and thinking of recipes everyone will enjoy. I have some picky eaters at my house and believe me, sometimes this makes dinner a time of stress. But don’t fret too much, or dinnertime will become unpleasant and that’s the last thing you need. Dinner should be a time to talk and catch up on the day’s events. Try as hard as you can to have everyone sit together every night and eat.
Not only has the price of gas gone up, but just about everything else has too. Food alone is eating into the family budget more and more. How many are in your family? 2? 3? 4? More? I have three kids, so that makes 5 of us altogether. We are on one salary and are finding it tougher and tougher to stretch that dollar. How do you stop wasting money on food that is thrown out, and start buying more efficiently, so that waste is eliminated?
