Oakland Raiders Tickets – Cable Reportedly Staying
The sources coming out of the Oakland Raiders are saying that the search for the Raiders next head coach is over and the man of choice is Tom Cable, who took over midway through the 2008 season as the Raiders interim head coach. Oakland Owner Al Davis fired head coach Lane Kiffin partway through the 2008 season after the Raiders got off to a rough start. The Raiders have also chose to bolster other parts of their game by naming Paul Hackett as their new quarterbacks coach and Dwaine Board to coach the defensive line. Fans can be there to cheer on the new coaching staff with Oakland Raiders tickets from http://www.stubhub.com/oakland-raiders-tickets/.
Cable is no stranger to the NFL or coaching. He was a standout guard at Idaho before spending one season playing in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts. He became a graduate assistant at his alma mater in 1987, and he stayed for two seasons. He took the same role with San Diego State for a year before being hired to coach the defensive line at Cal State Fullerton. He moved to offensive line coach for Nevada-Las Vegas in 1991. In 1992, he started a six-year stint with the University of California as their offensive line coach. He moved to the University of Colorado in 1998, spending one year as the offensive line coach and another as their offensive coordinator. He was Idaho’s head coach from 2001-2003. He then took an offensive coordinator position at UCLA for two seasons. In 2006, he made his entrance into the pro coaching ranks as the offensive line coach for the Atlanta Falcons. After spending a year with the Falcons, he came to the Oakland Raiders as an offensive line coach.
Hackett was a quarterback at UC Davis, where he started coaching the season after he graduated, 1969. He became the assistant coach at the University of California from 1972-1975, moving from there to USC until 1980. He had his first NFL position in 1981 as the quarterbacks coach of the Cleveland Browns. After two seasons, he coached quarterbacks, tight ends and wide receivers at the San Francisco 49ers from 1983-1985. The Dallas Cowboys had him as their passing coordinator from 1986-1988, after which he went back to the college ranks, first as University of Pittsburgh’s quarterbacks coach and then their head coach. He went back to the NFL as the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs for five years before spending another three years with USC. He was the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets from 2001-2004. He coached quarterback with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before spending last season in charge of special projects with the Raiders.
Board spent nearly a decade in the NFL as a player before moving into the coaching ranks. He started coaching as a defensive line assistant for the Niners in 1990. He became their defensive line coach in 1994. In 2003, he became the defensive line coach for the Seattle Seahawks, a position he stayed in until 2008.
