Question about antique wood cook stove?
I have just had installed an antique wood cook stove. It is a Majestic. I have no idea the model or year. It belonged to my grandmother, but she passed away many years ago so I can’t ask her. On the front of the oven is a temperature guage with numbers that go from 1 to 12. Can anyone tell me how this relates to actual oven temperature? At first I though it might be for 100′s of degrees, but surely the stove couldn’t get near 1200 degrees? Thanks for any help.

I heve one that is older than that. I LOVE mine. You cannot touch the bread it bakes. I use it for cheese making, crackers, soups, jerky, canning, and even heat. Mine is an 1893. I roast in it, fry on it, and even broil steaks. Yes, it does take practice, but it’s worth the tries. As far as the tempertatures go, just buy a cheap oven thermometer. That will tell you what the temp’s are. Also, the kind of wood and the size of the piece dictates the temps. Just make sure you burn the pipe each week to eliminate the threat of fire.
